RECRUITING: Wilson impressed after in-home visit

Mammoth Hattiesburg, Mississippi offensive lineman Calvin Wilson (6-6, 342), will have to wait a bit longer to meet Coach Urban Meyer. Meyer was unable to get to Hattiesburg this afternoon but Coach Steve Addazio stood in for him and made a good impression on the talented lineman. According to Wilson, Coach Meyer will reschedule his in-home visit for sometime next week.

Wilson, who has already achieved a qualifying ACT test score and maintains a 2.7 classroom average, places a high priority on academics.

"Coach Addazio did a real good job of selling the whole program at Florida," he said. "I was very impressed with the kind of academics and support I would get there. It looks like a really good place to get a good education and play football.

"I knew Florida had a very good communications and journalism department but I didn't realize just how high the program ranked nationally until I talked to Coach Addazio."

Wilson's family was quite receptive to both Addazio and his message.

"They really enjoyed meeting coach Addazio," Wilson said. "He did a good job of explaining what they can expect from the University of Florida."

Wilson said his family is extremely supportive, noting "they told me that they will support me 100 per cent on whatever I decide is the best choice for me."

So, did the visit from coach Addazio move him closer to the possibility of being a Gator? "I really learned a lot from him but it's going to be a real tough decision. It's between Florida and Mississippi State."

Wilson says he will be in Gainesville for an official visit on January 28 "unless I decide to commit someplace else before then."

I believe that Calvin Wilson will wait to meet coach Urban Meyer next week before he makes any decisions. He has maintained throughout the recruiting process that he will weigh all of his options before making a decision. I do not think that will change. I look for him to meet with Meyer next week and then trip to Gainesville on January 28 as planned.

Stay tuned.
