The events will be the first team scored meets of the season for both squads and will provide a sold litmus test for the Gators. On the women's side, five of the 10 teams attending are currently ranked in the latest Trackwire Top 25, while the men's meet features three ranked teams in addition to Florida: number 13 Texas Tech, number 22 TCU and number 24 Baylor.
The women are led by senior All-American Candice Scott (Port of Span, Trinidad) who has reset her collegiate record in the weight throw twice this season. The mark now stands at an impressive 23.52m/77-02.
The men's team is coming off its first meet of the season last weekend when the Gators hosted the Florida Intercollegiate. Sophomore Kerron Clement (La Porte, Texas) led the way by posting a provisional time in each race he ran in, including clocking a 7.28 in the 55-meter hurdles - a time that ties for the seventh best in school history. Clement also ran a provisional time of 21.16 in winning the 200m, while senior Dwight Ruff (Sicklerville, N.J.) won the 55m hurdles with a provisional time of 7.32 and sophomore Mike Morrison (Willingboro, N.J.) added a win in the long jump with a provisional leap of 7.62m/25-0.
