RECRUITING: Richard, Williams to visit Arizona St.

Vladimir Richard, the four-star defensive end from Sunrise (FL) Piper is starting to tire of the entire recruiting process. In a phone interview with Gator Country Wednesday evening, he said that his phone has been ringing off the hook, a stark comparison to the conversation two weeks ago when he said the recruiting process wasn't the least bit stressful.

Now he says he can't wait until national signing day next Wednesday.

The 6-4, 255-pounder plans to visit an old friend this weekend. He and linebacker Gerald Williams (Fort Lauderdale Boyd Anderson) have decided to pay a visit to the coach to whom they first made their commitments. Bill Miller, who was the linebackers coach at Florida on the Ron Zook staff, now worksin Tempe, Arizona where he is the defensive coordinator.

"I'm going to visit Arizona State University this weekend," said Richard. "Gerald (Williams) is going out there too. We're leaving Saturday morning."

Vladimir Richard was unaware of circulating rumors attributed to Florida assistant coach Doc Holliday that say if he and Williams aren't on the Florida campus this weekend their scholarship offers will be rescinded.

"He (Doc) didn't say anything like that to me," a seemingly puzzled Richard said. "He just said that he wished I would take a trip (to Gainesville) and visit this weekend. You could say that he wasn't especially happy that I wouldn't be coming in, but no, he never said that [the scholarship offer would be pulled]."

Richard also dismissed reports that he has committed to the University of Tennessee.

"I haven't committed," Richard stated. "I hadn't heard that one either. No, I'll make my decision next week. I think there will be a ceremony at my school at 10 o'clock in the morning, Wednesday. Right now, I'm looking at Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, NC State, and Arizona State."

GATOR COUNTRY TAKE: Richard and Williams were summertime commitments to Florida but it's looking more and more like they will be wearing colors other than orange and blue. The relationship with Bill Miller could swing both these prospects to go west.
