RECRUITING: DeSean Jackson down to USC & Cal

Although he expressed an interest in the Florida Gators a few weeks ago, no one held out tremendous hope that Desean Jackson would actually visit Gainesville. Gator Country confirmed that Thursday night. The lightning quick wide receiver from Long Beach Poly will remain in California this weekend and he'll be making his announcement between Southern Cal and Cal on Fox Sports next Wednesday.

DeSean Jackson, who is rated five stars by, was the Most Valuable Player in the recent US Army All-American Game in San Antonio. He caught 103 passes for 26 touchdowns in his final two seasons at Long Beach Poly. He has a 3.0 GPA and a 1280 SAT score.

It's not 100 percent certain that Jackson will actually play college football. He is considered likely to go in the first ten picks of the first round of the major league baseball draft in June. Desean Jackson is a center fielder with tremendous range who is the prototypical leadoff hitter.

He has said that he wants to play both football and baseball when he goes to college, but he told Gator in San Antonio that if baseball came up with the right offer, he would have to consider making a baseball-only choice. > GATOR COUNTRY TAKE: A close family member wouldn't come right out and say it, but the laughter made it pretty clear that when Desean puts on the baseball cap next Wednesday, it will have an SC on the front. The proximity, the stature of the baseball program and the fact that he has seven or eight former high school teammates on the Southern Cal roster make that the likely choice.
