RECRUITING: McPhearson decision will come Wed.

Last year Derrick McPhearson was one of the top commitments to the University of Florida recruiting class. He was snagged by former UF Coach Mike Locksley (now the offensive coordinator at Illinois) along with Derrick Harvey, another top recruit from Maryland. McPhearson spent the past football season at Fork Union Military Academy. He made another official visit to Gainesville this weekend.

"I had a great time," said the 5-11, 185-pound wide receiver. "You know, everything is pretty much the same except the coaches. It went well. I really got to know Coach (Urban) Meyer and Coach (Billy) Gonzales, who is my position coach. They seem very serious about winning."

Terence "Hot Tamale" Holmes was McPhearson's host for the weekend and Derrick said that he hung out with quite a few others including Steve Harris, Jemalle Cornelius, and Mike McIntosh.

"We just had a great time...just having fun," he said. "Everybody was cool."

McPhearson's commitment to UF has been a topic of heated debate recently, and he opened up to about this situation.

"I'm going to wait to make my decision," he said. "I don't even want to say anything about it right now. I don't even want to say who it's between right now. I'll make my decision soon. Everything will come out Wednesday."

GATOR COUNTRY TAKE: Derrick McPhearson committed to the Gators last year and again this year. The fact he made the trip to Gainesville means he is still interested. However, we still have to see what kind of connection he has with Locksley. It looks like Florida and Illinois battle this one to the wire.
