RECRUITING: Visit to UF family reunion for Demps

When Pensacola Washington's four-star (by linebacker Jon Demps visited the University of Florida this past weekend, little did he know that it would be a mini-family reunion.

"I had a good time and felt real comfortable," he said, adding that he was surprised to find out he had family on the Gator football team.

"I found out I had a couple of teammates that were family," said the 6-4, 228-pounder. "One of them was Brandon Siler."

Siler is Florida's All-SEC Freshman Defensive Player of the Year. If Demps were to come to Florida, there's a good chance he will one day find himself starting next to his cousin.

While the visit went well to Gainesville, he's keeping his final choice to himself, only admitting there are just two schools remaining on his list.

"I only have two now, Florida and Florida State," he told Gator Country.

Demps has been a Florida State fan for quite some time. He lives a little closer to Tallahassee than Gainesville.

"Florida State was my dream school when I was younger," Demps said. "They have that advantage."

While FSU may have been his dream school when he was growing up because of football, he's got other things besides football on his mind now. The academic situation at UF thoroughly impressed him.

"They (Florida) probably have a better overall education and tutorial support there," he said.

Demps said he will reveal his final choice during national signing day on Wednesday.

GATOR COUNTRY TAKE: In talking to Jon Demps I have come to know him as a very outgoing and easy listening personality. He always enjoys the interviews although he was looking to cut this one short. Judging from the conversations, it seems Florida has certain advantages that could prove critical in his final decision.
