RECRUITING: Update on Derrick McPhearson

According to reports elsewhere this week, Maryland wide receiver Derick McPhearson was supposedly headed to the Florida Gators when he sends in his national letter of intent Wednesday morning. When Gator Country spoke with Derrick's father, Gerrick McPhearson, he explained that this is a story we won't know the ending of until the letter of intent is faxed in to some fortunate school.

According to the elder McPhearson, "Well at this point in time, he hasn't really solidified anything. We are waiting to hear from him tonight after school."

Derrick is currently enrolled at Fork Union Military School in Fork Union, Virginia. The speedy wideout signed with the Gators last season but did not meet the NCAA requirements for admissions. He has spent the last year at Fork Union prepping to enroll in college.

"It is a little different from last year," said Gerrick McPhearson. "Being that he is away at school, it will be his decision. We are going to have a family final talk here in the next couple of hours and I will be more definitive, but not right now."

GATOR COUNTRY TAKE: It sounded to me like maybe dad wants Derrick McPhearson to go ahead and verbalize his choice. I don't doubt the validity of the other report. I think he is, was, and will be a Gator.
