MEN'S SWIMMING: Ryan Lochte wins SEC award

University of Florida junior men's swimmer Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla.) was honored by the Southeastern Conference on Wednesday as its men's Swimmer of the Week after earning three individual event wins and a relay victory.

It is the fourth such honor for Lochte and the second this season as he was also recognized as the SEC's top swimmer for the week on Jan. 19.

Lochte, raced to the top spot in four events this week, taking top honors in the 400-yard medley relay, 1000-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard breaststroke. He helped the 400-yard medley relay team record a season-best time of 3:14.13, which is the second-best time in the SEC. By winning the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 8:59.54, Lochte recorded the top time in the SEC this season by five seconds.

Currently, Lochte holds the nation's top time in the 100-yard backstroke (46.72) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:43.81), while holding the second-best time in the 200-yard freestyle (1:34.05) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:42.29).

The third-ranked Gators return to action for their final dual meet of the season on Saturday as they host Indian River Community College. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
