UF Track Teams Host Indoor Meet

The fourth-ranked University of Florida women's track and field team and the sixth-ranked men's squad will host their second home meet of the 2005 indoor season when the Gators welcome teams from across the country for the Gator Invitational on Sunday at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center beginning at 10:30 a.m.

In addition to the Gators, Jacksonville, Central Florida, South Florida, Florida International, North Florida, East Carolina, Florida State, Alabama, Miami, Auburn and Western Carolina are among the teams that will compete.

The women's squad is led into action by reigning Southeastern Conference Field Athlete of the Week Liz Wanless (Belleville, Ill.), who claimed her fourth shot put title of the season last weekend at the Clemson Invitational with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 17.29m/56-08.75.

The men enter the meet with several athletes ranking among the best in the nation. Sophomore Kerron Clement (La Porte, Texas) currently has the fourth-best time in 200m (20.91) in the country, while senior Kyle Farmer (Columbia, Md.) is sixth (21.00). Sophomore Mike Morrison (Willingboro, N.J.) boasts the fourth-best mark in the long jump (25-0) and the 10th-best leap in the high jump (7-1.50). In addition, the Gators' 4x400m relay team of junior Stefan Pastor (Columbia, Md.), sophomore Reggie Witherspoon (Marietta, Ga.), junior Sekou Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica) and Clement have the fastest time in the nation (3:06.81).
