1st Two Offers for Tallahassee Athlete

DeAndre McDaniel is a standout wide receiver and defensive back from Godby High School in Tallahassee, FL. He has three schools at the top of his list right now and has already collected two scholarship offers.

DeAndre McDaniel had a productive year on both sides of the ball. From his wide receiver position, he hauled in 27 catches for 657 yards and six touchdowns. At safety, McDaniel had 53 tackles, eight interceptions, and he returned three of those for touchdowns.

Schools from across the country will be back at Godby this year, and two schools have already offered McDaniel a scholarship.

"I like Florida State, Miami and Clemson. Florida and Arkansas have offered me," DeAndre McDaniel said.

What does he like about his three early front runners?

Florida State: "They're just a winning school and they aren't loaded at the safety position. I've always been a Florida State fan."

Miami: "I like the prestige there, but they did get a lot of defensive backs this year."

Clemson: "I just like Clemson period. I like how they play and the colors."

Does McDaniel have a preference for position?

"I want to play defensive back in college. I'd like to play both ways but I think I'm better on the defensive side of the ball though."

What are the factors DeAndre will make his decision based upon?

"It's probably all going to come down to depth chart and how quickly I'm going to be able to play."

How would he handicap himself as far as strengths and weaknesses?

"I think I do everything pretty well except back pedaling because I just like to read the quarterback at safety. I picked off 8 balls last year."

Will he commit early or play the recruiting game?

"I'm going to take some visits, but I don't know if I'll commit early or not."

Any camps in the works for McDaniel?

"I'll probably camp at Georgia and Florida State. Those are the two I know of right now"

Are there any players that DeAndre tries to emulate on Friday nights?

"I look at Ed Reed and Brian Dawkins because they are my favorite players. They will come up and hit you."

Scott Kennedy Scouting Report: While McDaniel says that he prefers safety, he certainly plays the wide receiver position like he loves it. He has strong hands and good acceleration once he has caught the ball. He is not afraid of contact with or without the ball, and will go over the middle or lay a solid crack back block.

At safety, McDaniel also has a good nose for the ball as evidenced by his eight interceptions. At 6-1 and 185 pounds, he might be best suited to play on the defensive side of the ball as wide receivers keep getting bigger and bigger. He's the type of athlete that can have a terrific career on either side of the ball. The priority will be to get him on campus and not worry about where to play him yet.
