SOFTBALL: Gators ranked 19th in latest poll

The Florida softball team moved to number 19 in the Softball Poll. Florida has received votes, but has never been ranked in the first poll of the season.

The Gators, who were receiving in the preseason poll, are coming off a 5-0 weekend at the Clearwater Invitational. In the tournament the Gators defeated two teams receiving votes in the preseason poll and then-number four Oklahoma. Florida is now 7-0 overall and will host the GRU Classic this weekend.

Florida has been ranked or receiving votes in every Softball Poll since its inception on Feb. 25, 2003. Florida reached a high ranking of number 12 on April 13, 2004.

Eight of the 11 teams that sponsor softball in the Southeastern Conference are currently ranked or receiving votes.

The Softball poll is released every Tuesday. The Gators are currently receiving votes in the USA Today/NFCA preseason coaches poll. The first regular season poll will not be released until Wednesday, Feb. 16 and will be released each Wednesday.
