MEN'S TRACK: Morrison wins SEC honors

After posting an NCAA Indoor Championships automatic mark and the second-best leap in the country in 2005, University of Florida sophomore Mike Morrison (Willingboro, N.J.) was named the Southeastern Conference Field Athlete of the Week as announced Tuesday.

Morrison qualified for the 2005 NCAA indoor meet at the Iowa State Classic last weekend with a career-best indoor and winning leap of 7.86m/25-9.50, which is the second-best mark in the nation so far and ranks as the fourth-best in school history. A five-time All-American in 2004 as a freshman, Morrison followed his performance in the long jump with an NCAA provisional and season-best leap of 2.19m/7-2.25 in the high jump the following day. That mark ties for ninth best in the country so far this season.

Number three ranked Florida returns to action when the Gators look to defend their 2004 team title at the SEC Indoor Championships Feb. 25-27 in Fayetteville, Ark.
