WOMEN'S GOLF: Lady Gators 4th In Puerto Rico

DORADO DEL MAR, Puerto Rico --- The number 16 Golfweek ranked Lady Gator golf team is off to a good start as the team finished with a 308 after the first 18 holes of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, hosted by Purdue University. UF is in fourth place, just nine strokes behind SEC rival Auburn Tigers. Auburn leads the 13-school field carding a 299.

In the lead for the Lady Gators was freshman Tiffany Chudy (Miramar). Chudy currently sits in a third-place tie with an initial start of 74 strokes for day one. Behind her, senior golfer Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood) finished in a tie for eighth after carding a 75. Chudy is tied with four other women, while Vander Lende shares her eighth-place seat with six other golfers.

Coming off a 10th-place finish in the Northrop Grumman Regional, freshman Sandra Gal (Leichlingen, Germany) fired a day one tally of 79 to finish in a tie for 30th. Eight spots behind her is teammate Camila Gonzalez (Bucaramanga, Columbia) in her first tournament of the 2005 spring season. Gonzalez carded an 80, good for a 38th-place tie.

Freshman CJ Kim (Rowland Heights, Calif.) rounded out the starting five for the Lady Gators. Kim shot an 83 on the opening day of the Classic for a 57-place tie. Also on the roster for UF, competing in her second tournament of her collegiate career and as an individual, is freshman Eleanor Tucker (Wilson, N.C.). Tucker fired a round of 76, her season low for the second straight tournament, to finish in a tie for 15th.

The Lady Gators will return to the par 72, 6,000-yard course tomorrow for a shotgun start at 8 a.m. in Dorado Del Mar, Puerto Rico. Results from the Classic will be available on GatorZone.com at the conclusion of each round. The 54-hole tournament format features a round of 18 each day. The Classic will conclude on Wednesday, Feb. 23.
