Florida's #1 Prospect?

Larry Blustein of FloridaKids.us has Jamar Hornsby rated as the #1 prospect in the state of Florida, and after watching a quick highlight reel on him, it's not hard to see why. At 6-5 and 195 pounds, his head coach sums up Hornsby's abilities quite well:

"He's the best player that I've personally seen in six years as a head coach in Florida," Coach Adam Geis told TheTerritory.org's Dave Peters. "He's one of the best offensive and defensive players that I've seen. When you combine that, there's not even a player close to him."

There are going to be two recruiting battles for Jamar Hornsby in the next 18 months. The first one will involve the best schools in the country, and the second one will involve the staff that signs him. There is a going to be a war between the offensive and defensive coordinators at the school he signs with to see who gets him first.

"Every major league school is going after him," Geis said. "Florida probably is number one on his list right now. I feel like it will come down to a Florida/Florida State battle for him in the end. I've seen Fred Rouse on tape and I think he's an unreal receiver. Jamar can do what Fred Rouse can do at receiver plus he can come up from the safety position and break your neck."

Hornsby is spectacular on both sides of the ball. Comparing him to two former Sunshine State standouts, he is a more natural receiver than Antonio Cromartie and more physical on defense, and he has the same type of receiving skills as Fred Rouse, but is more physical than him as well.

Hornsby is a lock for 1st Team All-South this year. The player I said that about this time last year was Patrick Turner who ended up being the #1 wide receiver prospect in the country.
