Because he knows the tight end so well, Coach Nobles knows how to utilize Kasey as an offensive weapon.
"He knows right where to get open," said the coach. "He has been playing football since he was seven years old. He can stretch the defense and does well running the ball after he catches it. He has a knack for making the simple and the big plays. Kasey is always going to block for his teammates."
According to Kasey, his favorite college player of all time is Jeremy Shockey from the University of Miami who plays for the New York Giants in the National Football League. Not only does Kasey try to run his routes and catch the ball like Shockey, Coach Nobles says, "He is probably our meanest kid on the field. All the kids call him Little Shockey."
Kasey told Gator Country that the factors which make him a top prospect are "my strength, speed and route running."
Coach Nobles plans on playing Kasey both ways this year. Last year it was by necessity that Kasey played defense. This year it will be by design.
"We had to throw Kasey in on defense in the Pensacola Catholic game," Coach Nobles said. "We got injured up front and Kasey, who hadn't practiced there, was all over the backfield. We are going to play him some at inside linebacker and defensive end to get after the quarterback."
Union County, which had a run of four straight state championships in the 1990s, starts the 2005 season with the same goal as always.
"We are looking to win the state championship," said Kasey. "That is our goal."
Nobles is doing well in the classroom so there will be no grade issues. He's got a lot of attention from several big time football schools, but he admits that while he was growing up, Florida State was always his favorite. That hasn't stopped other schools from writing.
"I am getting letters from a lot of schools like Georgia Tech, Georgia, Florida State, Florida and Miami.," said Kasey.
Kasey Nobles is one of several outstanding prospects for a Union County team that will be among the best in the state in its class. Kasey will likely be listed among the top prospects in the state of Florida when the post-spring rankings come out.
