RECRUITING: Toryan Smith has UF in favorites

Georgia linebacker Toryan Smith (6-0, 241, 4.8) says he favors Oklahoma, Florida and Alabama over Georgia and Auburn. All have offered. "I'm most interested in all three of those schools," says Smith, from Rome High School.

"I like how Oklahoma is a winning program and they've got a great winning tradition. They've got a lot of good things going on there, and I've got a good shot at playing early. I've met with coaches (Cale) Gundy (running backs/rec coord) and (Brent) Venables (linebackers) already. Coach Venebles showed me some film on the LB position there and showed me how well I'd fit into their program.

"I like coach (Urban) Meyer of Florida. I think he's the right man for the job there. They've always had great athletes there; they just needed their attitudes changed a bit. I really like the environment and the climate there.

"I've met with coaches (Mike) Shula and (Joe) Kines (linebackers) from Alabama. They're a rebuilding program and I'm really interested in them right now," he says.

Smith has taken in JR Days at Florida, Georgia and Alabama. He's also taken unofficial visits to those three schools as well as to Oklahoma, Nebraska, Auburn and Tennessee.

"This summer I'm taking a team camp to Auburn and I'd like to get out to USC for an unofficial.

"I'm taking all five of my official visits so that I can make the right decision on a program and school."

He claims offers from South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Duke, Maryland and Michigan.

"Michigan was the first school to offer me. I like how they did that and stepped it up over everybody else. They've got good players and I'm going to be there for an unofficial visit next weekend (4/16). My dad has some friends who live in the city of Ann Arbor, so we'll stay with them.

"I'm a good leader on the field and I bring a hard nose to the game. I am a dominant force at stopping the run, but I need to get better in pass coverages and playing in space."
