Gators Make BIG Impression

C.J. Spiller is quite possibly the top RB in the southeast for the class of '06 and the Florida native has attracted the attention of recruiters from coast to coast. The home state Gators were on his mind this weekend however as Spiller took a trip over to the UF campus to check out Coach Meyer and his new Florida staff. Was the visit enough to supplant them at the top of his list?

"I had a very good time. It really stood out to me how the players were so tight nit and how they care about each other. I didn't make a commitment or anything but it was kind of a temptation to and all that," C.J. Spiller said.

What all did he get to do while in Gainesville?

"It was exciting just hanging with the players. I hung with Marcus Manson most of the time. We were just talking about the recruiting process and all that most of the time. I talked to the running backs coach. We just hung out and had a lot of fun. Playing video games and talking recruiting."

The Gators have now leaped to the front for Spiller.

"Florida, Miami, Florida State, USC, Georgia, Tennessee and Auburn are on my list. Florida is my favorite."

C.J. gave the following reason for moving UF ahead in the race for his signature.

"It's just close to home and the players really care about each other. It's a program that's really fixing to be on top. I also love the academics."

What stands out about the other programs on his list as well?

Miami: "I talked to Coach Coker and we talked about setting up a visit. They always have a good running back coming through and they didn't sign one last year."

Florida State: "That's my team right there. I grew up liking them and they just have a lot of running backs. It would be nice to be back there with Antone Smith."

USC: "What mostly got me with them is that their whole OL is pretty much freshmen. I think Bush and White will enter the draft also."

Georgia: "That's just a great place to play football. They have a lot of guys that are injured and it's a power I team."

Tennessee: "I went on vacation up there. They have so much tradition up there and the players are very close."

Auburn: "They don't have any running backs up there right now."

Spiller is already contemplating his first official visit.

"When I make my first official visit it will be either USC or Auburn when school starts back. I've already unofficially visited Florida, Ohio State and Tennessee. I'm trying to get to Miami also."

Can the Gators maintain the advantage they built this weekend or will they fall back to the pack as the recruiting process continues to heat up? Stay tuned to Scout.com right up through signing day '06 to find out…
