Florida Impresses In-State Star

When you mention the top big athletes in the southeast a name that's bound to come up eventually is Jacksonville star Jamar Hornsby. With a physique big enough to contribute almost right away at either wide receiver or safety, Hornsby is a hot commodity for recruiters in the Sunshine State. On Saturday Jamar made a quick ride over to Gainesville check out one of his most active suitors, the Florida Gators. How did it go?

"I had a good time over there. Just getting out and meeting all the players and all the coaches was the best part. We all went out to the lake and ate out there. It was a lot of fun," Jamar Hornsby said.

Jamar spent some personal time with Florida coaching staff.

"We watched game film and talked to the coaches. Coach Meyer let me know how bad how bad he really wanted me to be a Gator. He told me I had a good chance to come in and play right away."

Hornsby even made a couple of new friends while on the Gainesville campus.

"Jarred Fayson and I hung out. We got each other's phone numbers and we actually spoke this afternoon. Tim Tebow was over there also. We just talked for a little while."

The visit did nothing but solidify the Gators slot at the top of his list.

"I'm looking at Florida, Michigan, USC, Georgia and Georgia Tech. Florida is the leader. I guess it's just mainly because I talk to them more than anything else. I talk to Coach Mattison a lot."

What stands out about the other programs on his list?

Michigan: "They think I can play early and I would get that #1 jersey."

USC: "They're just a good program."

Georgia: "I'm from Georgia so I've always kept them in mind."

Georgia Tech: "I liked my visit there and like I said, I'm from Georgia."

What staff will get the next unofficial visit out of Hornsby?

"Me and Justin Williams might go up to Georgia soon. We were talking about that together. We talk on the phone a pretty good bit."
