Florida OL is Hot Target

Zackery Handerson has been perhaps the hottest prospect in the Sunshine State over the last month. Since showing up to the Tampa Scout.com Combine on May 7th with a single offer from Illinois, Handerson has added 12 additional scholarship pledges and shows no sign of letting up.

"I now have offers from Auburn, Louisville, Indiana, Georgia Tech, East Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Ball State and Bowling Green."

Five schools stand out above the others at this time and one program has a narrow lead.

"I like Florida, Georgia, Vanderbilt, North Carolina and Oklahoma. Florida is my favorite school just above Georgia."

What has put the Gators out front?

"Florida is close to home. I'm right here in Jacksonville. It's also a great school academically. The only thing separating them from Georgia is distance."

Georgia: "I like the academic atmosphere. I also like Coach Richt. He's really turned them around."

Vanderbilt: "Pretty much the academic environment. I like their program also."

North Carolina: "I haven't been up there yet but their academics are very attractive."

Oklahoma: "Don't know much about them, but they are past national champions so they are a good choice."

The big offensive tackle prospect most recently stopped in Gainesville to attend Camp Urban Meyer.

"It went really good. I really like the program. I think Coach Meyer is really going to turn it around. He knows what he's doing. They haven't offered me yet. They want to see how I do my senior year and have me gain a little weight first. I'm at 260 right now."

Zackery knows of two more camps he'll attend as well.

"I'm going to North Carolina in late July and Georgia on the 8th and the 9th of July."

What will he base his decision upon?

"Academics is really the biggest thing in my decision and that's why I like the schools I do. I want to double major in anthropology and archaeology and minor in English. Indiana Jones really interested me in all of that to be honest."
