News and Notes from Gainesville

Among other things, UFI takes a look at the injured football players and how they are doing. Also, find out who may be replacing Carol Ross as Head Women's Basketball Coach.

  • Matt Piotrowicz was in a scooter accident, but he is going to be OK.
  • David Jorgenson has a hurt ankle and is still in a walking cast.  He expected to play in the Orange and Blue game but that does not seem likely.
  • Carlos Perez is still not 100% recovered from his heel injury.  However, he is playing and practicing.
  • Dwright Jackson is out for the remainder of the Spring with an ACL injury.  He should be ready for practice in August.

  • Ran Carthon performed extremely well during Saturday's scrimmage.  He and Earnest Graham are really excited because they believe the Gators are going to put a stronger emphasis on the running game this season.
  • Coach Zook wants to ban his players from using scooters, but he is not sure if he can legally do that without getting into trouble.

  • Carol Ross' decision to leave as head coach really surprised Jeremy Foley.
  • Likely candidates for the position are Carolyn Peck, former Purdue coach and now coach of Orlando in the WNBA, and former coach Nell Fortner, now doing TV work for ESPN.
  • The feeling around Gainesville is that it is Peck's job to lose.
