MEN'S HOOPS: Brandon Powell Commits to Gators

Brandon Powell is leaving Tennessee and the 6-foot-4 1/2 wing from Fairley High (Tenn.) singled out one person for the reason for his departure to the Florida Gators.

For Brandon Powell, it was all about relationships. Well, actually it was all about one relationship in particular.

Powell, a 6-foot-4 1/2, 190-pound senior wing at Fairley High (Tenn.), committed to Florida on Wednesday afternoon.

``I had a great relationship with Coach (Billy) Donovan and I always felt like Florida was the right place for me," Powell said. ``I had good relationships with assistant coaches at other schools, but none of them were like Coach Donovan."

Powell averaged 15.2 points and 6.3 boards per game last season while playing alongside Thaddeus Young at Fairley. Now Donovan & Co. will focus their efforts on landing another wing and a big man to round out a class that includes Marreese Speights (Scout.com No. 50).

Powell also considered Memphis, Tennessee and Colorado.

``I've watched Florida back to when they had Jason Williams and Mike Miller," Powell said. "I've liked them for a while and felt comfortable with them. I just figured why wait any longer and lead the other schools on."
