FOOTBALL: Brandon Siler named to Butkus watch list

ORLANDO, Fla. * Brandon Siler (Orlando, Fla.) was among the 65 linebackers from across the country added to the Butkus Award Watch List, the Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando announced Thursday.

Siler is coming off a spectacular freshman campaign in which he earned the Southeastern Conference Defensive Freshman of the Year award after registering 77 tackles, 50 of which were unassisted, and three pass deflections.

The Butkus Award Watch List will be trimmed to 10 semi-finalists on Thursday, Oct. 20. The semi-finalist list will then be cut down to three finalists who will be announced via a national teleconference with players, coaches, media members and Butkus Award officials on Thursday, Nov. 10. The winner will be announced Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at the Butkus Award Gala in Orlando, Fla.

The Butkus Award is regarded as one of the most elite individual honors in college football and is given annually to college football's top linebacker. Dick Butkus, former University of Illinois and Chicago Bears Hall of Famer, will present the award named in his honor at the Awards Gala.
