Signee Q&A: Ray McDonald

UFI had a chance to talk with incoming freshmand Ray McDonald. Find out what he had to say.

Can you talk about how you think you did this past football season?

It was a pretty good season.  Not what I wanted to have but I had 24 sacks, 128 tackles, 4 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.  I had a pretty good season.  But we didn't win states.

Currently are you doing any sports?

Yea I do track. I do discus.  I am pretty good in that.  Hopefully I will make it to states.

Will you talk about your official visit to UF?

It was great.  I met most of the players.  They showed me a good time around the campus.

What made you select UF over the other schools that recruited you?

I grew up in Gainesville because my dad went there.  I‘ve always been a Gator.  I knew since I was born I wanted to be a Gator.

What do you think of Coach Zook and the staff he has assembled?

I like the staff.  They're more of a defensive group than the past staff. I play defense so I like it more.

What are your plans for this summer regarding training for the upcoming season?  Will you be attending summer B?

My dad's a track coach and I'm doing some sprints and some other stuff too.  I am going to summer B.

Talk about what you plan on majoring in.

Probably business because I always wanted to own my own business.

As a freshman do you plan on redshirting and what are your goals for your freshman year?

If I can come in and play I will play but if I need to redshirt I will do that.  As long as I play to the fullest of my potential one of my four years while at Florida, I'll be happy.

Were you at the Orange and Blue Game?

No sir I didn't attend.

Are you currently fully qualified?

Yes sir.

What jersey number would you like to wear at UF?

Probably 90, the same number I wore in high school.

Do you have any idea about who you want to be your roommate?

Maybe the end down from Miami, Taurean Charles, or maybe the guy from Fort Meade, the receiver [Jemalle Cornelius].

Were you upset when Spurrier retired?  Did you ever worry about who the coach would be?

A little bit because I always wanted to play under Coach Spurrier.  We're going to have a better team now this year, we'll be better defensively.  Since you know he was a defensive coordinator with the Saints.  I was confident [they would find a good coach].  It was a great decision.
