Meyer Believes Gators Are Ready For Saturday

With two days left until his first game as Florida's head coach, Urban Meyer talked to the media on Thursday after another wet practice. Meyer was loose and upbeat under the stadium concourse talking to reporters. The big question is still looming for the Gators offense. Can Chris leak run the offense the way it needs to be run?

For the Meyer offense to run like he wants the quarterback has to be able to run the option and shovel pass at least enough to keep defenses honest. Everyone knows Chris Leak will be throwing plenty to his talented group of wide receivers but will he be able to make the offense click on all cylinders which means options, shovel passes, reverses and the like? Meyer seems pleased with the offensive game plan for the game opener against Wyoming.

"I just wondered if we could do some of the things we have done in the past and what we needed to add," Meyer said with assurance. "We've got a lot of stuff in. You're only as good as that position (quarterback) is, and he is pretty good."

Meyer likes the overall preparation he's seen in the last two days. He thought Thursday's Thirsday's practice was a good one.

"We were able to take advantage today," Meyer said. "Tomorrow is a big preparation day as well. I really liked our Wednesday and Thursday … that is an indication that we are ready and I believe we are ready."

Earlier in the week Meyer was none too pleased with the effort the wide receivers were giving blocking down the field. The staff and players made a concerted effort the last two days to curb this problem.

"They struggled two days ago and received a little attention for that," he said. "We will find out Saturday (if improved) … it wasn't great, but we worked awful hard at it the last two days.

The players will have a choice of free time on Friday night when they relax before the game. For Meyer, he will spend the time watching his old team Utah. Others may go see a movie.

"Every Friday night we will do whatever is going," Meyer said. "A movie or the Friday night game, they can close what to watch. Yes I am going to watch it Utah game). I love them … I talk to the coaches and players all the time."

The Gators appear to be physically ready for their first match up of the season as Javier Estopinan (pulled calf muscle) is the only Gator scheduled to miss because of injury. As the game week progresses the hitting slows down which is normal for this coaching staff.

"We went as planned," he said. "Pulling off is natural. The only thing I did pull off of (more than usual) is the running, because of the heat. I want to make sure they get their legs back."
