Gators Make An Impression

Georgia star Mario Fannin was an early prize commitment for coach Tommy Tuberville's Auburn Tigers this year. From the outset however, he insisted that he would take visits and he made one of those trips last weekend when he went to check out the Florida Gators. How did it go?

"It went good. The best part was really being in the stadium and hearing all the fans. Seeing how crazy they were about Gator football," Mario Fannin said.

Mario was impressed by Urban Meyer's offense among other things.

"I like the offensive scheme they have, the facilities and the school spirit. I like a lot of things about Florida and it goes neck and neck with Auburn."

The Lovejoy star spent some time with the coaches while at the game.

"I talked to Coach Meyer and Coach Drayton. They just told me to keep them in mind. They really enjoy watching me play and they told me some things about Florida football and the University."

The visit wasn't enough to vault the Gators over the Tigers but it certainly has given Fannin a whole lot of things to think about.

"Auburn is still my number one leader but Florida is coming behind. I'm really not sure how solid my commitment is right now. I can't say."

Each of the 2 SEC powers like him at different positions.

"Auburn likes me at running back, safety and wide receiver. Florida wants me as a running back. Me personally, I would like to play running back because that's what I'm really good at."

Will it just be the Gators and Tigers to battle it out, or might some other school potentially get involved?

"It's down to Florida and Auburn. I may visit Tennessee on an unofficial however when they play Georgia."

Mario has already set his first official visit and he's looking at another potential date as well.

"I will go to Auburn for the South Carolina game and then I'm probably going to set one to Florida for when they play Florida State."

While recruiting is starting to heat up for Mario, he's already been blazing up the field on Friday nights.

"My stats so far is 36 for 78 for 368yds passing and 36 rushing attempts for 420yds. Last game I had 11 carries for 156yds and I went 9 of 17 for 85yds passing."

Will the Tigers be able to hold on to Fannin or will the Gators be able to change his mind? Stay tuned to to find out….
