RECRUITING: Gators shine for Byran Thomas

Zephyrhills wide receiver / defensive back Bryan Thomas is one of the more coveted football players on the board for the Florida Gators. Thomas visited during the slug-fest in The Swamp between the Gators and Tennessee and came away with lasting impressions of what was probably one of the best SEC games in years to come. As a result, his opinion of the Florida Gators improved significantly.

The four-star Thomas may be a blur on the field, but the Florida coaches see him clear as day and have a bead on him for his services.

"They are still real high," Thomas said on Florida. "Just being amongst all of that and being in the locker room afterwards, I felt like I was already a part of the team., The players were pretty cool -- they were tired after a long football game, and still found time to talk."

The Gator coaches were also able to spend a little time with Thomas and used the adrenaline charged post-game atmosphere as an opportunity to tout that there would be many more memorable moments like this with the team. There's nothing like the high of winning a big game with championship implications and they were very specific in pointing out to Thomas that he ought to be a part of it next year by telling him, "You see that, you can be a part of that!"

The game itself left a huge impression on Thomas. I could tell it in his voice -- the crowd, the noise, and the atmosphere was almost surreal to him. Like a dream that could come true...

"It was great, I love the atmosphere," said Thomas. "I know how the fans are. They are very passionate about the team and showed they really appreciated them. Oh my goodness it was wild."

It's a two team race for Thomas. Tennessee is seemingly out of it and one has to wonder if the game had any affect on Tennessee's chances.

"Florida is up there high and Ohio State is right behind them in the race," he said. "Ohio State has a good program and very similar to Florida. They are both football towns, the fans are passionate about their teams. They are great at what they do and they are two top schools that I might consider being a part of."

Bryan Thomas is a super athlete and could play on either side of the ball for the Gators. He's a tremendous talent that has a penchant for head-hunting at the safety position and he clearly liked the defensive clinic the Gators showcased during the Tennessee game. As a result, the Gators are in great shape for the talented All-Star.
