RECRUITING: Jones Will Visit Bama Saturday

One of the state's finest weakside linebacker recruits will be in Bryant-Denny Stadium when the fourth-ranked Florida Gators travel to Tuscaloosa to play fifteenth-ranked Alabama. Tampa Middleton's A.J. Jones is excited about the opportunity to see a pair of Southeastern Conference defensive stalwarts who are both vying for his services.

"I'm real excited about that game," Jones said. "It's good for me because I get to see two 4-0 teams that play good defense and they're teams that I have a strong interest in. We (Middleton) have a big game this Friday against (Jarred) Fayson and Hillsborough. They'll fly me up on Saturday morning."

Jones is one of the fastest linebacker recruits in the country. Standing 6-2, 190, Jones expects to gain the weight necessary to play the Will position next season. He is especially excited because he knows that he'll see two teams with outstanding linebacking corps.

"I'll get to watch Earl Everett (Florida) and check out the way that he plays and the way they'll get after that offense," he said. "I'll also get to see what Alabama can do about that (Florida) offense. I want to see how aggressively they play. Alabama is a disciplined team. They've always played that way. I want to see how they attack and move. I know Florida will attack."

The game will mark the end of a very busy week for Jones. Tampa Hillsborough is undefeated (5-0) and ranked #2 in Class 4A. Unranked Middleton is 4-1 and tied for the district lead with the Terriers. The winner of this game will go a long way toward securing a spot in the state playoffs.

"We've got something for them," Jones stated. "We're just taking stuff from their games against (Tampa) Armwood and (Tampa) Jefferson and going over everything. We know that we'll have to keep a close eye on (Jarred) Fayson … he's a great athlete. Our defense should stand strong."

Jones said that he his final college choices include LSU, Florida, Southern Cal, Alabama, Ohio State, and Tennessee.

When we last spoke, Jones stated that he has a 920 and 2.9 GPA.
