Scouting Ernie Simms (RB/LB)

A scouting report on perhaps the nation's top prospect for 2003. Simms is the best high school player I have seen in years.

Ernie Simms is the best overall high school football prospect that I have seen in several years. First of all, he has that rare combination of size, speed, strength and quickness. Simms is so good on both sides of the ball he could play running back or linebacker at the next level. He is a powerful running back with great explosiveness. Simms has enough speed to turn the corner and is obviously very productive between the tackles. When he gets his shoulders square and runs down hill, Simms is awfully tough to bring down, especially one on one. He is terrific is short yardage situations. Simms has the ability to break tackles or run right by you with his speed. Defensively, he is an outstanding linebacker that flies to the football. Simms is at his best when he has to chase. He can rush the passer or stuff the run. Simms is strong, physical and very aggressive. He takes on and sheds blocks very well. Overall, he could excel on either side of the ball at the next level. It just depends on what position he decides to play.
