HOOPS RECRUITING: Mack Still Hasn't Decided

Doneal Mack, a three-star basketball recruit from Statesville, North Carolina, isn't quite ready to pull the trigger on his college commitment. With more big time schools taking a look at the wing guard, Mack has decided to take a little more time before he makes his announcement.

The list of schools that have an interest in Mack grows on a daily basis. At the moment, the schools the 6-5 shooter is considering are Florida, Virginia Tech, Boston College and Illinois.

Mack attended Midnight Madness 2005 in Gainesville on the weekend of October 14 but he left without making a commitment. Mack still says Florida is in the running but he will take visits to other schools before he makes a final decision.

Virginia Tech was one of the first schools to show interest in Mack. Mack has a good relationship with Coach Seth Greenberg and he likes the way the Hokies would use him as a scorer. He has made an official visit to Virginia Tech.

Mack has not set a date for an official visit to Boston College yet, but he says that visit will happen. Coach Al Skinner entered the recruiting process with Mack back in October and apparently, Boston College has been making steady progress ever since.

The real newcomer is the University of Illinois. When Statesville Christian held an open practice last Monday, Illinois assistant coach Jay Price was in attendance.

"Illinois told me that they are looking for a combo guard," Mack said. Mack says he likes Illinois, head coach, Bruce Weber, who guided the Illini to the national championship game back in March.

Mack, who had listed November 5 as the day to announce his decision, has now pushed that date back. He will set visits to Boston College and Illinois before he makes a final decision.
