The following information was revealed during our interview with Zhamal Thomas:
What are your strengths at guard? "Trap blocking and pulling on the boot passes and stuff. I do good when I am going against the linebackers too."
What do you need to work on? "Reading defenses, and I need to pull my ACT test up to at least a 17."
How long have you been starting for New Iberia? "This is my second year. I use to start for Westgate my freshman and sophomore years."
Talk about your senior season? "We had a bad season. It is over, but I had a good season. I had several good games, but I had one standout game. A really good game. We played Carencrow, and it was probably the best game of my career."
Talk about Hurricane Katrina and how it effected your play and your personal life? "It really effected my life with my daily routine with football and with my family. After the hurricane, we had to travel back and forth from my grandmother's house in Franklin (LA). Our house got washed away in the hurricane so we live with her now. It was real tough losing our house, but it is all over now. We are doing good."
Who will round out your visit list? "Most likely, it will probably be Florida and Arkansas. I want to say Florida for sure. It may be Clemson instead of Arkansas, but Florida for sure."
Which coach(s) have you developed the tightest relationships with? "Coach Doug Vallery (LSU) and Coach Frank Wilson (Ole Miss). Those are my partners."
What do you like about Ole Miss? "They way they start young linemen. The only guy they signed last year (at the OL) is starting for them now, so. Just me getting that opportunity to come in and play as a freshman."
What are LSU's positives? "I have been liking LSU since I was small. That is my home town team."
And Texas? "I have been liking Texas for a while too. I got a chance to go on their campus. I saw how their social life is, and I got to talk to their players. They also have a good academic support group."
Which schools have you visited unofficially? "ULL, Texas, and LSU."
Lastly, talk about Florida. "The surroundings, I like it a lot, and I have an Uncle who played for Florida. He gives me a lot of inside tips and stuff."
What will you be looking for when it comes decision time? "The main thing is getting a good education. But basically, the surroundings and how I interact with the players and coaches."
