Florida Gator Football

Gators' confidence growing week by week
There was a time when the Florida football team won games in early August before anyone in the country had even put on pads.

Starters too important to special teams
Although two key Florida players have suffered injuries on special teams, coach Urban Meyer has no plans to switch to reserve players in those situations.

Spurrier Briefly Thought About Returning To UF
outh Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said Wednesday that he briefly considered a comeback to Florida last year, but he changed his mind almost as quickly after Ron Zook was fired.

Meyer having tough time with distractions
Urban Meyer has been involved in games with with plenty at stake, but the former Utah and Bowling Green coach has never dealt with the scrutiny that is present in Gainesville.

Meyer's emphasis on USC, not UGa
It is a college football fan's dream. Saturday, Florida fans could spend from noon to beyond dusk glued to television sets. First they will root for Florida against South Carolina at 12:30 p.m. Then, if the Gators win, the fans will watch attentively while LSU visits Alabama at 3:30 to bring some clarity to the West Division before 7:45 when an Auburn victory at Georgia could catapult Florida into the SEC title game.

For Gators fans who haven't tuned out their ex-coach, they can tune in to his new team's games on ‘Air Spurrier'
The phone lines are lit up as Pat Dooley heads into the second hour of his midday sports talk show at WBXY-FM, aka "The Star 99.5." The major topic of discussion this day is the same as the day before, and likely the rest of this week: Steve Spurrier and Saturday's clash between USC and Florida.

Siler in search of touchdown
One of these days, linebacker Brandon Siler says he's going to score a touchdown.

Players, fans set aside Spurrier loyalty for S.C. game
Free Shoes University means nothing to him. And he doesn't even know that you can't spell Citrus without UT.

Florida Gator Basketball

Team might just look like old-school Donovan
Let's start with the understanding that it was one game, the first game, the initial step in a long journey to March. So you try not to draw too many conclusions from Florida's victory over St. Peter's - the school not the cathedral - on Wednesday night.

Florida cruises to win
It was pretty clear from Florida's 80-51 victory over St. Peter's College that Billy Donovan's players have been paying attention to him during the offseason.

UF cruises in opener
Florida center Joakim Noah snatched the rebound away from two St. Peter's defenders. By the time he controlled the ball, teammate Corey Brewer had hit midcourt, waving for an outlet pass. It arrived, Brewer dribbled and dunked, and the Gators were showing a side they hope will return game after game this year.

Gators romp in classic rout
The Gators might not have Matt Walsh, Anthony Roberson or David Lee, but at least they have Billy Ball.

Florida's offense clicks in opener
Entering the first game of the year with four sophomores and a junior in the starting lineup, Florida coach Billy Donovan sought maturity and consistent offense out of his largely untested team.

Brewer Scores 18 in Gators' Opening Win
Corey Brewer scored 18 points, showing he could help Florida replace its top three scorers from last season, and the Gators opened the season with an 80-51 victory over Saint Peter's in the first round of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic on Wednesday.

FSN Florida airs UF basketball

Up-tempo style serves Gators well

Danes battle Gators next
University at Albany men's basketball coach Will Brown didn't want to dangle any Gator bait

Young Gators resemble hustle of old days in win
The new-look Florida basketball team debuted Wednesday night with a 29-point win over St. Peter's, an up-tempo style reminiscent of the old Billy Donovan teams and five players in double figures.

UF showcases new talent in opening win
One down, one to go. On their first step to Madison Square Garden, the Gators felt like they had something to prove.

Florida Gator Volleyball

Gators benefit from pipeline
Two lifelong dreams were fulfilled in the P.K. Yonge gymnasium Wednesday when Janine Williams and Elyse Cusack signed national letters-of-intent to play volleyball at the University of Florida for coach Mary Wise.

Florida Gator Track & Field
