Profile 2003 - Marcus Thomas (DT)

Meet Marcus Thomas, another big name prospect from the city of Jacksonville. He plays defensive tackle for Mandarin High School. This is a BIG need for the Gators. Where does Florida fall on his school preference list?

One of the top defensive line prospects from the state of Florida is Marcus Thomas from Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin High School. Thomas is a defensive tackle prospect that is big and strong.

"Marcus is a run stopper," said Mandarin Head Coach Richard Burnoski, also known as coach Bruno. "He plugs up the middle and makes plays in the backfield."

Last season as a junior, Thomas recorded 62 tackles and 11 sacks. He is 6-4 and 295 pounds. Thomas bench presses 400 pounds.

"I am quick off the ball and strong," said Thomas. "I also play guard but I rather play defense."

Jacksonville produced a few D-tackle standouts last season in Chris Turner and Chris Anderson. He is friends with both players, especially Anderson. Both prospects signed with his favorite team, Florida State.

"I am a big FSU fan. I have grown up on Florida State football. They always seemed to be the champion and I have always wanted to play for them. That is my dream. They are my leader. I also like Florida and Miami. I know one thing... I will not leave the state."
