"I told Coach Meyer earlier on Wednesday that I was going to make it official win or lose this game," Thomas told Gator Country Saturday night. "I don't think he believed me … he was trying to blow it off. I just walked up to him and he shook my hand and he said, ‘So?' And I told him let's make this a tradition for another four years."
And with that Bryan Thomas became commitment number 13 for the Florida Gators, another reason for celebration on an evening when the Gators owned a smashing, 34-7, victory over arch-rival Florida State. The four-star rated (by Scout.com) safety out of Zephyrhills found the electricity at The Swamp and the big game atmosphere everything he was looking for and that just solidified the decision he had made on Wednesday.
"I just had to find out for sure where I wanted to be," he said. "I think this is where I wanted to be."
From the moment the Gators took the field until the final whistle, the crowd was roaring and fully into the game. It was the kind of atmosphere that can only be appreciated in person and the 6-2, 193-pound Thomas loved the way the crowd supported the Gators.
"They came out fired up for the game, they really showed up," he said. "The crowd was crazy, wild."
Thomas said he saw many more recruits in the south end zone that were also cheering on the Gators, many of whom are not already public commitments to Florida. He expects many of those athletes to join him as a Florida commitment very soon.
"The whole class of 2006 is going to bring new blood and the same equipment," he said. "It is going to be the best recruiting class yet. We are bringing a lot of size and speed to the table."
Thomas still plans on taking one more official visit outside of Gainesville but he says he will finish it off in late January when he does his official visit weekend at Florida.
"I am still planning on visiting Ohio State," he said. "And I set my official visit up for Florida on January 20th ."
For weeks now, Bryan Thomas has been recruiting for the Gators. His commitment was expected but now that he's made it official where he wants to go, expect that he will be making those calls to fellow recruits with an added passion and fervor.
