RECRUITING: Tim Tebow - "It was awesome"

He sounded exhausted, and who could blame him? It's been another busy week for Nease quarterback Tim Tebow. On Friday, he led the Panthers to a big playoff victory. Saturday morning included a trip to Gainesville, where he watched the home town Gators dismantle arch-rival Florida State. Today, he spent much of the day with the Florida coaches.

Tebow was wrapping up his official visit weekend to the University of Florida when I spoke to him late this afternoon. It was after 5 o'clock, and from the moment he answered the telephone, it was all too obvious that he was ready to relax.

Man, you sound tired? It's been a long weekend?

"Yes sir, it has." He said with a half-hearted laugh.

Scout.com's #3 nationally ranked quarterback put up 444 all purpose yards as the Panthers cruised to a 57-21 win over Gainesville Eastside on Friday night. He completed 23 of 35 for 381 yards, which gave him 9,371 career passing yards, a new state record. His numbers eclipsed the record set by Daytona Beach Seabreeze (and current Florida State reserve quarterback) Xavier Lee.

Nease will host Pace High School on Friday night. The winner will play for the Florida Class 4A state championship in Miami on December 10th at Dolphins Stadium.

He attended what amounted to the state championship among the Big Three. Florida State defeated the Miami early this season, leaving the Gators and Seminoles to fight for the crown.

"Well, it was a big win," Tebow said of Saturday's showdown. "It was one of the biggest wins for Florida or Florida State since I've been alive. It was awesome. Florida came ready to play and they played a great game. "

He had told me in an earlier conversation that he wanted to see how the Florida coaches and players got along on gameday and hoped to see a little more of the Florida offense.

"I think that it was really good," he said of the working relationship. "The coaches care about the players and the players care about each other. I was watching stuff out there and the offense and the different reads and everything like that. I was just really watching to get as much as I can."

"It (the visit) was right there at the top. There have been a lot of great crowds at "The Swamp," but that was one of the best. It was a good visit, a really good visit."

Tebow and his friend, Jarred Fayson talked about Fayson's commitment to the Gators. He said that Jarred was very excited. He wasn't going to offer anything further on Fayson's commitment, and who could blame him? It will only matter if they become teammates and Tebow isn't ready to make that announcement until December 14th on national television.
