Florida Gator Football

Degory: A study in tenacity
Leaders lead in different ways. Some do it by vocalizing. Some by example. Mike Degory does it with his presence. His tough, burly, persistent presence.

Goin' Bowlin'
Great UF Bowl moment 1960 Gator Bowl:In Ray Graves' first season, Florida landed in the Gator Bowl. Extra seats were brought in to expand the stadium to 51,000. Larry Travis recovered a Baylor fumble in the end zone and Florida withstood a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to win 13-12.

Wynn throws hat in ring to play his senior season
Another Florida junior who had been contemplating an early exit to the NFL has decided to return for his senior season.

Don't pencil Degory in UF's lineup
Mike Degory wears a heavy brace on both knees, and there are stitches in the pinky finger of his left hand.

Quick-learning Gator might play some at QB
New backup quarterback Gavin Dickey has proven to be a fast learner, and Florida coach Urban Meyer said that could earn the redshirt junior some playing time against 25th-ranked Iowa on Monday.

Ironman Going The Distance
Mike Degory still felt every hit from the previous week's slugfest in the mud puddle formerly known as Neyland Stadium, and the University of Florida center wondered if he could survive the Gators' Sept. 28, 2002, game against Kentucky.

Iowa's Young: Quietly Productive
From the first time they crossed paths, Russ Horton knew there was something special about Albert Young. Horton, a veteran coach and teacher in Moorestown, N.J., first met Young when Iowa's sophomore running back was in third grade.

Wynn Planning To Return To Gators

Bowl might be receiver Jackson's UF finale
TAMPA - It's that time of year when college football coaches worry about who's going and who's staying, and the Florida Gators have their own list of headaches.

Iowa coach lost Leak but gained Tate
Coach Kirk Ferentz barely remembers quarterback Chris Leak's official visit to Iowa. Quarterback Drew Tate will never forget it. He wouldn't be under center for the Hawkeyes against the Florida Gators if Leak had picked Iowa instead of UF.

Change for a chance
The search for a home for his athletic ability has led redshirt freshman Cornelius Ingram into unfamiliar territory once again. Ingram hopes his latest move — to H-back in coach Urban Meyer's offense — will get him off sideline and into the Florida lineup.

Class action
Brodrick Bunkley's rise to an All-America defensive lineman at Florida State began with a stern warning last summer. Bunkley was in tears in June after Seminoles assistant Odell Haggins told the senior nose tackle his career was in jeopardy unless his academics became a priority.

Leak as a Hawkeye? It might have happened
Try to imagine what it would be like if Chris Leak was a quarterback for Iowa's football team

Meyer expects physical game with Iowa
Florida coach Urban Meyer has no doubt that next week's Outback Bowl game against Iowa will be a physical affair.

Teams shake off winter rust
Perhaps one thing that has concerned Kirk Ferentz and Urban Meyer about the Outback Bowl was how their teams would handle a month layoff.

Tate took the road less traveled to UI
He didn't fly to town on a private jet. He didn't see signs welcoming him to Iowa on the drive from the airport.

By the numbers
0-Iowa natives on the Florida roster. 11-Florida natives on the Iowa roster. 37-Combined touchdown passes thrown this season by Iowa quarterback Drew Tate and Florida quarterback Chris Leak.

Definitely not the same game
The former Iowa players have handled the game tape with care when they've shipped belongings to their current addresses.

UF's Degory a cut above with 50th start
Florida center Mike Degory became as well known for his wild hair and bushy beard as he did for his consistency for the Gators as a four-year starter.

Siler wants Gators to make statement
Florida linebacker Brandon Siler was talking about teammate Mike Degory's 49-game starting streak during the school's bowl media day event when he gushed about how such a streak didn't seem possible.

Wynn, Thomas will return for Gators
Florida has dodged at least a couple of concerns for 2006 and the Gators haven't even finished the current season

Career once in doubt, center excels
If Iowa's offensive line seems to be walking a little taller this season, it's because of the man in the middle.

Skyler Thornton transfers to VSU
With leading rusher Vince Brown completing his career at Valdosta State in 2005, the VSU football team is in need of a big-time running back.

Florida Lady Gator Basketball

Back to work
lorida is 9-1, has won seven straight and is close to cracking into both top 25 polls. But by the Gators' assessment, the team is still not playing its best basketball at the moment. Just ask senior guard Sarah Lowe.

Florida Gator Volleyball
