The Palm Bay (Fla) Standouts

[MEDIA:32874]
Melbourne (Fla.) Palm Bay will be one of the most talented teams in the Sunshine State this upcoming season. They are deep and very talented. Two big reasons why are Joe Cohen and Reggie Nelson.

This upcoming season, Cohen will play fullback, running back, wing back, defensive end and linebacker. Right now, he is 6-3 and 240 pounds. Nelson will play wide receiver and linebacker. Palm Bay just rapped up spring practice with a hard fought 41-19 win over Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola.

"Spring practice went well," said Cohen (photo above). "I started (practice) late because I went to state in track. The first couple of days were rough but I finally got comfortable once again. I scored a touchdown in the spring game and of course, Reggie (Nelson) was amazing like always."

Cohen and Nelson are more than just teammates but good friends. "I have known Joe for a very long time," said Nelson (photo below)... "since we were young. We would love to continue playing together and go to the same school in college."

Both players say they will start their summer workouts of running and lifting right away. Nelson hopes to camp at Florida while Cohen says he will do "what Reggie does this summer."

Cohen and Nelson have offers from FSU, Florida and Miami in addition to most of the college football powers in the region like LSU, Auburn and Tennessee and outside the region as well like Penn State, Michigan and Syracuse. It appears that at least Cohen will drag the recruiting process out until the very end.

"I want to take all five of my visits," proclaimed Cohen. "I like all those teams that have offered. I am open and do not have a leader. I am hoping to play defensive end at the next level but I am anxious to see how running back goes. That kind of excites me."

Nelson remained just as open Cohen when discussing school preferences. Here is what he had to say.

"I do not have a leader. I like the big schools - FSU, Florida, Miami and LSU out of state. I like them all and do not have a favorite. FSU and Miami are very good schools. I like the coaches at Florida and they need safeties."

Nelson could play receiver, linebacker or safety at the next level. Most feel he will end up at safety and that he is the best player on a very talented high school football team. (photo below is Tavares Gooden, Joe Cohen and Reggie Nelson)
