Profile 2003 - Richard Cook (DE)
There are very few players in nation that can match the physical prowess of Washington-Wilkes' Richard Cook. Cook is a member of the Borderwars 101 Team. A well rounded athlete Cook won the State Championship in the shot put, and was a member of the State Champion 4X100 relay team. An impressive display of both strength and speed. It's a feat only done once before, by a former University of Georgia tailback named Walker.
"That's the only time anyone has ever won both events in Georgia," said Cook. "Herschel Walker is the only other person to have won the shot and the 4X100." The thoughts of a 6-4 and 270 pound man running the 4X100 relay have college recruiters foaming at the mouth. "I have one offer so far, and it's from Georgia. I'm going to try and get to a camp this summer at either Florida or South Carolina. My favorite teams right now are Florida, Florida State, Maryland, Georgia, and South Carolina. They're all pretty even. I guess you could say the only thing that might give Georgia a slight edge is that my cousin Antonio Mercier signed with them this year."
With Cook's tremendous speed, he also played some running back last season. "I played a little running back. I averaged about 7 yards per carry and had 10 touchdowns." When it was pointed out that 10 TD's was more than "a little", Cook just laughed.
Richard cook is a difference maker on the next level, and he'll be one of the most hotly recruited prospects in the south before it is all said and done.
