RECRUITING: Gators lead for big safety

I first learned about Florida prospect Chris Bennett when I observed him at a passing league event in Atlanta almost a year ago. A 6'4 safety typically just stands out and Bennett was no different. He has great athleticism and it's no surprise that he's already drawing interest from a host of in-state programs.

"I get a lot of letters from Miami, Duke, Florida, USF and Florida State," Chris Bennett said.

He would like to stay instate for college if at all possible.

"I like Miami, Florida, South Florida, Central Florida and Florida State. Florida is my favorite school."

Chris grew up a fan of the orange and blue.

"I'm just a Gator fan. I had some family that went to school there and I like what Coach Meyer is doing."

What stands out about the other schools he favors early on?

Miami: "A lot of the DB's that play there go to the NFL."

South Florida: "They just seem really interested in me. My brother is a student there."

Central Florida: "I met the coaches and I really like them. They also seem just really, really interested."

Florida State: "They've been showing interest and I'd like to stay in Florida to play."

Bennett had a great season in '05.

"I had 69 tackles and 7 tackles for loss last year. I also had a sack, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 interceptions."

Bennett will have another chance to show off his ability when he attends our Combine in Jacksonville, FL this coming weekend.
