A Booming Kicker!

[MEDIA:32874]<BR>One of the top kicking prospects from the state of Florida is punter Christian Koegel from Deerfield Beach, Florida. Last season, Koegel averaged a booming 48.9 yards per punt with a long of 72 yards. As a sophomore, he had a 79 yard punt.

"I like to just go out there and bomb them rather than directional kick," said Koegel. "But if I need to kick directionally, I can."

Hang time is vitally important to punters and Koegel averages around 4.3 seconds per punt. At this time, he does not have any scholarship offers but Miami, Florida State, Florida, Central Florida, NC State, Boston College and Eastern Michigan are recruiting him and showing interest. Because of the scholarship limitations in college football, many quality kickers each year get asked to walk-on rather than receive a scholarship.

"If that happens, I would go with the school that offers me a scholarship. I want to take that burden off my parents even if it means that I have to leave the state. I prefer to stay in-state. Right now, I like Miami, Central Florida, Florida and NC State. I am looking for a good environment, a good tradition of kickers and a quality coaching staff."

Koegel just attended the Carol White Kicking camp. He plans on attending the Miami camp and the Lock and Load Camp in Orlando.
