Siler Named To Lott Trophy Watch List

Newport Beach, Calif. - Florida junior linebacker Brandon Siler is one of the 42 top defensive players in the nation who have been named to the 2006 Lott Trophy Watch List, it was announced today.

In a short period of time, Siler has developed into one of the most respected leaders on the Gator football team. Earlier this month, he was named to the team's Football Leadership Committee for the second straight season. The Committee is charged with acting as spokesmen for the team and handling situations related to team policy issues, academic affairs, off-campus circumstances and other topics.

On the field, Siler played an active role helping Gator defense earn a No. 9 ranking in the nation during the 2005 season. He led the SEC with seven fumble recoveries, with no other player in the league recovering more than four. He also finished the season second on the team with 64 tackles (33 solo and 31 assisted). Siler has played in all 24 games since his freshman year in 2004.

For his efforts in the classroom, Siler was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll during the fall 2005 semester. He is also an active participant in the Goodwill Gators program.

Named after Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, The Lott Trophy is awarded to college football's Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. Now in its third year, it is the first college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player

Sponsored by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, the award is given to a player who exhibits the same characteristics Lott embodied during his distinguished career: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.

Voters for the award include selected members of the national media, previous finalists, the Board of Directors of the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation and Master Coaches, a distinguished group of former head college coaches.

The winner will be announced at a gala black-tie banquet at The Pacific Club on Dec. 10.
