RECRUITING: Lecorn names UF among favorites

When you're talking about top pass catchers in the Sunshine State for the class of '07, one name that has to repeatedly come up is that of Ocala's Dion Lecorn. He's already collected over half a dozen offers and we expect that total to continue to rise over the coming months.

(Dion Lecorn Profile)

"I have offers from South Florida, Central Florida, Florida, South Carolina, Illinois, Ole Miss and Tennessee," Dion Lecorn said.

Three schools really stand out the most to Lecorn at this juncture.

"My top four would be Central Florida, South Florida, South Carolina and Florida. Right now I'm looking at UCF and Florida the most if I want to stay instate. If I leave, I like South Carolina."

What sticks out about those programs?

Central Florida: "I like how their program is and that it's close to a lot of my family in Orlando. They're also building a new stadium and rebuilding other things."

Florida: "I grew up liking Florida and it's right down the road from me in Gainesville. It would be a great chance to win a National Championship with the recruiting class they got last season."

South Carolina: "I love how Coach Spurrier runs his offense."

You'd be hard pressed to find a more productive receiver in the south than Lecorn.

"I had 59 catches for 1151yds and 11 touchdowns last season. I was named first team All-State and team offensive MVP. I think I have great speed and strength. I need to continue working on my speed still and getting that step on the defenders though."

Having a quarterback the caliber of Texas commit John Brantley certainly doesn't hurt if you're a wideout and the Trinity Catholic duo have developed quite a rapport.

"It's nice man. Me and John have a good connection. He's a great quarterback that can get you the ball. I think Texas is a good choice for him because I know I grew up liking Texas and Florida myself. He's going to do well anywhere he goes and I think he's going to do great out there."

What are his goals headed into his final year of high school football?

"I'm going to try and get another 1000yd season so I can finish with about 3000yds total. I'm already the career leader in receiving yards but it would be nice to get another 1000."
