"I had a real good time at Florida this weekend," said Michael McNeil from Mobile, (Ala.). "I met all the coaches. I spoke to coach Meyer, coach [Charlie] Strong and coach [Chuck] Heater."
"Big Del [Corley] and I had a real good time together. He made a big decision this weekend. He wanted to go ahead and commit. He wants to focus on his senior season and his academics. He is happy all the pressure is off of him."
The talk around Gainesville following Saturday's Orange and Blue game was the performance of freshman quarterback Tim Tebow. McNeil was impressed as well.
"They had a bull ring out there before the game, and players were calling each other out. Everyone was going at it pretty good. Tebow was trying to get out there, but coach Meyer quickly grabbed him. He is real hard-nosed and tough."
The 6-2, 200-pound prospect watched Florida's safeties during the game, and McNeil sees an opportunity for playing time.
"They had to rotate a wide receiver No. 24 [John Curtis] to play safety, and he played well," McNeil said. "You could tell he wasn't a safety because he was trying to adjust the whole time. He did good though."
McNeil has not received a scholarship offer from the Gators, but that may change after this week. McNeil delivered a highlight tape to the Florida staff.
"Only three schools have seen my highlight tape [Alabama, Auburn and Ole Miss]," he said. "All three of those schools have offered me. Coach Strong said he was going to watch my tape Monday and let me know what he thinks."
"I really like Florida a lot. Coach Meyer is cool and down-to-earth. He has a good relationship with all of his players. I think that is a real good thing to have--a head coach to have that kind of a relationship with everyone."
McNeil will participate in the Scout.com All-American Combine in Tuscaloosa April 29.
