California OL Likes The Gators

[MEDIA:32874]
Sam Baker, a dynamite guard from Tustin, California, likes Florida. But can the Gators pry him away from Southern Cal?

One of the top offensive guard prospects from the Western region is Sam Baker from Tustin, California. Baker, 6-5 and 310 pounds, plays for a run oriented team.

"We only throw one or two times per game," said Baker. "I think my pass blocking skills will catch up pretty quickly once I get to college. Right now, I love to pull and trap and get down field to block. Those are my strengths as a guard."

According to Baker, he has scholarship offers from the PAC 10, Colorado, Utah, Fresno State and Florida

"Right now, I would say USC is my leader. It is close to home and very convenient. It is a team on the rise that I really believe will make a run in a few years. I think I can also fit into their system.

"I have Florida number two. That is the big time school. I have been to Florida and like the climate and that would be a nice place to live.

"LSU will offer soon and I know they play freshmen or at least they did last season (Ben Wilkerson).

"I have always been a fan of Oregon and at Arizona State, I could play early.

"Those are my five favorites right now. I want to play early. That is important as well as the (offensive) scheme and coaching staff."

Baker is teammates with the top tight end in the West, Chris Barrett. They are best friends and want to play together.

"We have talked about it and I think there is a 90% chance we go to the same place together."

Baker has already taken unofficial visits to USC and UCLA. He also starts at defensive end. Baker carries a 3.0 GPA and has already scored a 1030 on the SAT. He bench presses 355 pounds, squats 500 and power cleans 320.
