Gators Lead For DL

[MEDIA:32874]<BR>Yes Signing Day is still six months away but Coach Ron Zook and company are making some in-roads, especially in South Florida. Here, one d-tackle is leaning to the Gators... a position that Florida desparately needs to sign several prospects to fill their need.

Another defensive tackle standout from the Sunshine State is Phernando Hill from Marathon, Florida. Hill, 6-3 and 305 pounds, recorded 87 tackles and 11 sacks last season.

"I am a better run stopper," said Hill. "I don't let anyone get past me and if they do I get really mad. I hate that because it means I am not doing my job. I always go out there and play my best. I am a good pass rusher but a better run stopper."

Hill does not have any scholarship offer at this point but Florida, FSU, Maryland, Miami, Auburn and South Florida all are showing interest and all called in May.

"Right now, Florida is my favorite team. They have been since I was a kid. I was real happy when they started recruiting me. I have always liked Coach Spurrier and his attitude. I always liked their defense with guys like (Jevon) Kearse and (Alex) Brown. Spurrier has moved on but I like their new staff. But the main thing is the "Swamp". I have always wanted to play in that environment. If they offer, that is where I want to go.

"I also am looking South Carolina and Arkansas. I like how those guys play defense. Basically, I would play for anyone that gave me an opportunity. I play for a small school and I have to earn everything I get. I know I have what it takes. I may be big but I make big plays."

Hill camped at Florida last month. He is recovering from a back injury sustained in a car accident a few months back. The injury caused him to miss the Miami Nike Camp. Hill says he is about 90% right now. He hopes to camp at South Florida later this month.
