RECRUITING: Enrique Davis Has 18 Offers

Lynn Haven Mosley running back Enrique Davis has secured an impressive list of offers. Why wouldn't he? He's big, fast, strong, productive, and a sound leader. Davis has yet to receive an offer from Florida though, where his father starred in the seventies. However, don't assume that there is a lack of interest on the Gators behalf.

"I'm getting a lot of letters," Davis said. "I think that I have eighteen offers so far. I have offers from Florida State, Auburn, Nebraska, Ole Miss, LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Wisconsin, UCF, Kentucky, Maryland, Indiana, and Tennessee. I'm hearing from Michigan and Michigan State a lot too. I haven't narrowed my list, but I might do that soon. I'm just not sure right now."

The Mosley Dolphins wrapped up spring practice and figure to return to the state playoffs in 2006.

"We lost a lot of linemen last year," said Davis, whose dad Henry was a standout corner for the Gators in the 1970s. "We have two returning linemen and three new ones who came along pretty good this spring. We needed to get some of them experience, so that we can be better team. We've got Carlton Johnson and Tommie Rogers back there running the ball too. I think that it's going to be hard for teams to stop us this year. Our quarterbacks are good too. They can run real well."

Davis (6-1, 212) amassed over 1,800 yards and scored 25 touchdowns as he clearly established himself as one of the top big backs in Florida. Mosley coach Perry Brown said that Davis averaged between eight and ten yards per carry in a season where he had over 200 carries. Brown also stated that Davis had established himself as one of the leaders of the team. He recently attended the Nike Camp where he opened a few more eyes.

"At the Nike Camp in Georgia I ran a 4.39 forty on grass," he stated. "I ran a 4.31 shuttle. I wasn't very happy with that run. I jumped 36.9 and did 26 reps on the bench at 185. I'm still at 6-1, I just can't break that height (laughing) and I always weigh in between 210 and 215. I weighed 212 at the camp."

He told me a few months ago that he had a 3.0 GPA and had scored a 17 on his ACT, but has since retaken the test.

"I haven't gotten a Florida offer yet," he said. "Coach (Stan) Drayton wants me to come down there so they can see me work out. I told Coach (Chuck) Heater not too long ago that it's hard for me to get down there, because the fact is that I'm going to summer school for extra credit in one of my core classes. They talked to me about coming down for Friday Night Lights. I might be able to come down there if I can bring a couple of teammates (Carlton Johnson and Tommie Rogers) with me. They're getting a lot of mail too."

"Right now I don't have a top five, but if they (Florida) offered I'd certainly be considering them. They already have a good team with last year's class and they look like they already have a good team coming in there.
