Danish Hoops Standout Accepts Scholarship Offer

[MEDIA:32875]<BR> Christian Drejer, a guard for the Danish national team and the Danish League Player of the Year, has accepted a scholarship offer to play for the University of Florida men's basketball program. Drejer (pronounced Dry-er) will enroll for the fall semester.

"We're very excited that Christian has decided to be a part of the University of Florida basketball program," said head coach Billy Donovan. "He's extremely talented, very versatile and has played against the highest level of competition in Europe since an early age. Christian is a tremendous addition to our team."

The 6-8 Drejer was a member of the Danish national squad this past season and was named Danish League Player of the Year after averaging 31.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for SISU of Copenhagen. He averaged 17.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in his first season for SISU in 2001.

Drejer will bolster the perimeter attack of a Florida squad that returns four seniors, went 22-9 a year ago and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year. The 19-year-old knocked down 34 percent of his three-point attempts a year ago, while hitting better than 50 percent from the floor overall.
