JaMarcus Russell was one of the most impressive quarterbacks at the Student Sports Elite 11 camp last week. The strong armed QB from Mobile (Ala.) Williamson High School, roomed with Tommy Grady from California and had a great experience at the camp.
"It was so much fun and I really enjoyed it," said Russell. "I learned a lot in the classroom and I left a better quarterback then I came."
So JaMarcus, who was the top quarterback there?
"Kyle (Wright) and Chris (Leak)," he said without hesitation. "They were both great."
Russell start's two-a-days on Monday. He is ready for a big senior season. With that comes the pressures of recruiting.
"Right now I like so many schools... Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Auburn, Mississippi State and Florida."
Russell told Greg Biggins of PacWestFootball.com and Elite 11 that his three leaders were LSU, Florida and Georgia. He has great size (6-6, 220) and perhaps the strongest arm in the country. Last season as a junior, he threw for almost 2,000 yards. Russell camped at Auburn this summer. Look for him to be a five star quarterback when TheInsidersRecruiting.com comes out with their next set of rankings in two weeks.
Here is what Biggins said about Russell's performance at the Elite 11:
"Had to sit out the last half of three of the five practices with a sore arm. When he was out there, showed he probably has more upside than anyone else in the camp."
