Florida Gator Football

Safeties first
Florida coach Urban Meyer used a telling analogy to describe the importance of his safeties to his football team.

Picking winners still like running gauntlet
What gauntlet? I keep hearing that this week now that Florida has conquered the first two foes in a difficult four-game stretch and the next two opponents were humiliated on Saturday.

Florida stingy in 2nd half
ot so long ago, crunch time had a way of becoming cringe time for the Florida Gators. The fourth quarter. Many times, the Gators didn't get out alive. Other times they did, but barely.

Muschamp's been around SEC block
He played at Georgia, coached at LSU and now Auburn. But Will Muschamp's first SEC love was the team he'll try to defend on Saturday night.

Gators QBs keep united front
The team could be divided. The starting quarterback could be angry, popping off to the media about being pulled for a freshman. The backup could be talking about wanting to start.

Two Quarterbacks, One Goal
University of Florida senior Chris Leak, who one national columnist claimed is privately "steamed" about the Gators' quarterback situation, walked off the practice field Monday joking with receiver Dallas Baker in a decidedly unsteamed fashion. A post pattern away, freshman backup Tim Tebow tried to explain how two quarterbacks can play regularly for the nation's second-ranked team without anyone's ego getting flattened.

Tuberville Misses Florida-Auburn Rivalry
Count Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville as one coach who misses the Florida-Auburn rivalry. Tuberville believes a change in the SEC's scheduling policy has taken the steam out of one of the conference's best rivalries.

WR Harvin ready, TB Wynn likely
Florida Coach Urban Meyer's playbook just got a little bigger. Meyer announced Thursday that WR Percy Harvin is back to his elusive self and will be more than ready to play Saturday against No. 11 Auburn

QBs Leak, Tebow play nice together
A quarterback controversy could have spelled disaster, but senior Chris Leak's and freshman Tim Tebow's disparate styles prove to be a winning combination.

Gators' Harvin healthy again
The Gators finally should have receiver Percy Harvin 100 percent healthy against Auburn. Also, coach Urban Meyer expects starting tailback DeShawn Wynn to play Saturday.

Year later, Mullen and offense find their rhythm
Out of the shadows and onto one of college football's hottest seats, Dan Mullen looked lost and uncomfortable.

UF extra
Auburn RB Kenny Irons is struggling a bit, but he's the best back UF's SEC-leading run defense (56.8 ypg) will have faced. The SEC's leading rusher in 2005, Irons has averaged 102.8 yards, but just 85 yards and 3.5 yards a carry during his first three SEC games. He sat out the Sept. 23 Buffalo game with injuries. But Irons remains draft analyst Mel Kiper's top-ranked senior RB prospect and could break out anytime.

Struggling Tigers look to stop the surging Gators
One of the SEC's most anticipated games will be played in front of a full crowd on Saturday when the Auburn Tigers host the mighty Florida Gators - and the Tigers certainly have a lot of work ahead of them.

Good Times for Gators: Fla. Ranks No. 2
These are good days to be a Gator. Florida is the new No. 2 in The Associated Press Top 25, its highest ranking since Steve Spurrier left Gainesville, and by far the best team in the Sunshine State.

Auburn-Florida rivalry has it all
Stunning upsets. Thrilling comebacks. Heisman Trophy moments. Even a 24-year jinx. The Florida-Auburn rivalry has had it all.

Florida Fans Are Living The Urban Myth
It's pretty fun to watch these Florida fans drink the Kool-Aid. They beat a decent LSU team at home and now they think they're headed to Arizona in January. Never mind, that Alabama had them on their heels for three quarters or that they struggled against Kentucky .

Mr. Two Bits, Gators' No. 1 cheerleader, has yet to boo
He's worn out a few yellow shirts in his day, and his signature orange- and navy-striped tie was eventually discontinued.

Gators getting healthy
Florida tailback DeShawn Wynn and wide receiver Percy Harvin will both play Saturday against Auburn, Coach Urban Meyer said Thursday.

Florida Gator Basketball

Clock strikes 12 for Gators
Florida's men's basketball team had a magical, wonderful 2005-06 season. The Gators went 33-6, won the Southeastern Conference Tournament for the second consecutive year and beat the most storied basketball program in NCAA history to claim the national title.

Florida coach Billy Donovan already likes his team's pre-season attitude. His players don't wear their diamond national championship rings and star player Joakim Noah already nixed Nike's idea for the team to wear a specially designed uniform for the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

Florida Last season: 33-6, 10-6 SEC; defeated UCLA 73-57 in NCAA championship game.

Hodge hits court after busy offseason
And you thought celebrating a national championship was the highlight of the Florida basketball players' year.
