Here are some interesting news and notes from the Game.

By the Numbers

85,575 – The game's attendance.  It was the largerst opening day crowd ever at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
78 – The number of consecutive sell-outs at Florida Field.  The streak goes all the way back to 1989.
13 – The number of consecutive home-openers the Florida has won.
1:28 – The amount of time it took Florida to score its first touchdown.
1 – The number of games Florida has lost win it rushes for more than 150 yards.  

Making Their First Starts

These Gators got their first career starts as Gators:

DT Arpedge Rolle, C Mike Degory, OT Jonathan Colon and TE Ben Troupe.

True freshmen in the Game

Only three true freshmen saw action against UAB.  They were RB Ciatrick Fason, OL Randy Hand and CB Vernell Brown.

Record Breaking

Taylor Jacobs broke the record for most receiving yards in a single game in Florida history with 246 yards today. Carlos Alvarez holds the record with 237 yards vs. Miami in 1969. Jacobs' total yards today ranks seventh all-time in the Southeastern Conference.

Moving Up

With his 16 completions today, Rex Grossman passes Steve Spurrier on the Florida career completions chart. He is now seventh all-time with 406 career completions.  Grossman also moved to fourth all-time on the career touchdown passes list. He now has 57 in his three-year career.

Odds and Ends

  • UAB now has an all-time record of 1-4 in games against Southeastern Conference schools. The Blazers' lone victory was a 13-10 triumph at LSU during the 2000 season.
  • Florida RB Earnest Graham, who finished with 182 yards rushing, is the first opposing player to run for more than 100 yards against UAB in 26 games, Frank Moreau of Louisville was the last opposing player to eclipse 100 yards when he ran for 128 vs. the Blazers in 1999.
  • Florida's 643 yards of offense are the most ever registered against a UAB team. The previous high was 593 yards by Kansas in 1994 when the Blazers played at the Division I-AA level.
