A record-setting performance by receiver Taylor Jacobs and a career night for running back Earnest Graham earned the praise of first-year Florida football coach Ron Zook on Monday, as he named the pair his Offensive Players of the Week for their efforts against UAB.
Cornerback Robert Cromartie headed up a stingy defense that held the Blazers to 90 yards passing and just three points, to take Defensive Player of the Week honors for the Gators, while long snapper Casey Griffith earned Special Teams Player of the Week.
On the offensive side of the ball, Jacobs hauled in eight passes for a Florida record 246 yards in the 51-3 victory, breaking the previous mark of 237 yards that had stood for 33 years. Included in his record-setting performance were a pair of touchdown receptions of 45 and 18 yards.
Graham looked in midseason form against UAB, carrying the ball 13 times for 182 yards and a pair of scores. He came up with the game's first score less than two minutes into play and never looked, as he registered the highest total for a Gator running back in nearly a decade.
On the defensive side of the ball, Cromartie posted four tackles and broke up two passes, as the Gators kept UAB out of the end zone.
After sharing Player of the Week honors with his team, Zook announced his game captains for the Gators' upcoming showdown with top-ranked Miami. Captains for Saturday's game will be Graham, Cromartie, quarterback Rex Grossman and free safety Todd Johnson.
The Gators and Hurricanes meet in the regular season for the first time since 1987 this Saturday, as kickoff is set for 5:15 p.m. with the game to be televised nationally on CBS.
